Default hinting with beagles...

well, we rabbit hunt with our three beagles, and our middle one is quicker then we are when it comes to retreving it....she will get to it and just tear right into it, what can we do to get her to stop doing that..?

God, it's literally been decades since I had my two beagles. Their names were Hook and Crook (they came with those names, I didn't do it). The names fit, though. Hook's tail had been broken in one place (a hook) and Crook's had been broken in two places (a crook). Crook was the fast, somewhat stupidone and Hook was the slower, smart one. A great team, all in all. I had the same problem with Crook. My dad helped me break him. He had me bring a leash, and when he would maul one of the rabbits, he would have me scold him and put him on the leash and leave him there while Hook jumped and ran the next rabbit. It only took a couple of trips before all it took to stop him was the same "NO!"He sure didn't want to go back on a leash.

You can use an e-collar, but I would be careful doing that. The reason they chase them is to catch/eat them. I always like to give mine a reward for bringing one around to the gun. I let them grab at the head once I hold them up. That way I can kind of control what they get ahold of.

You can be a little more selective where you shoot too, get to where the rabbit is close enough to you that you can get to it before the dogs do. Otherwise, let it go by and let them run it some more before you shoot it.
