Default shaving your dog

has anyone ever got their lab or hunting dog shaved? my mom says a lady at work gets her black lab shaved. im just wondering if this would help the shedding and if anyone has had it done? thanks

Did a golden a couple of times to get over the spring shed faster, not a real hunting dog though. Looked pretty funny until it started to grow back in a bit.

A dog's fur is it's insulation -- both summer and winter. A shaved dog can get overheated and sunburned in the summer if it has no hair.
