My dog's ear split, more like a chunk out of it on the bottom. now this happened about a month ago and what happens is it scabs up then it just comes off and bleeds. this is an everyday thing. i took him to the vet, but all he said was not much you can do, he did put some glue on it but it didnt hold. any ideas on what i can do w/ it???

There really isn't anything you can do for an ear like that. A cut can be stiched up but a chunk taken off just needs time to heal. Ears and tongues on dogs are the worst. There isn't much you can do for them. Just have to give it time. Eventually it will heal good. WCL

Depends on how big the chunk is. My black GSP got a small V shaped wedge ripped out of his ear. It was probably 1/2" long by 1/4" wide. Took him to the vet and the vet pulled it together and then stitched it. Now his one ear is a little cupped but overall it looks pretty good.

If our GSP's cut their ear, we take lay the ear up over its head and take some vet wrap (Horse Bandage) and gauze. Sandwich the ear between the gauze then lightly wrap the vet wrap behind the good ear and over the top of the dogs head and around. This keeps the dogs ear bleeding every time he shakes its head. We use one of the Vet Cones on the dogs head in the kennel until it heals up. When you are with him you can take the cone off. Super Glue and duct tape also work in a pinch out in the field

We use this liquid bandage stuff called New Skin on all ear tears.works realy well, just keep reapplying until the ear is mostly healed.
