Default keeping a beagle trained for rabbits as a pet as well?

I have the opportunity to get a 3 month old beagle free and would really like to make a rabbit dog out of him but I'm about to move into an apartment about an hour and a half away from where I live now. You can have pets there, I was just curious as to whether or not keeping one inside as a pet would ruin it's hunting capabilities.

Hi Metaldonnieq,

Yes, you can keep a hunting dog inside the house or in your case the apartment and it wont hurt there hunting ability. It will come down to your training him and commitment to him how he comes out as hunting dog.

I have a Lab/ chow mix right now that can out hunt some of these so called top bloodline dogs and he is sleeping two feet away from me right now. He was real expensive too he cost me $57.00 from the localshelter.

If you never trained a dog for your style of hunting look for a local club there is always some one willing to help out a first timer in the sport. I have a local clubsthat does field trials and one that trains Beagles. Go on line and find one in your area.

oh ya remember that it is not going to happen over night YOU have to be ready for the commitment to him and it's going to be tuff at times don't give up!! When your out hunting with thesehigh price dogs and yours come out on top that day You will fellso proud.

GOOD LUCK
