Default german shorthair pointer/lab

hey i need some advice on training my dog it is half pointer and half lab. They are about 4-5 months old. He fetches and brings the dummy back 80 % of the time. When should I start with fetching a dummy with feathers. I tried it once or twice already and he just wants to sit their and chew on it. PLease help me this is my first time training my own dog.

duckhunter try attatching a check cord to your pups collar and when you toss the dummy don't toss it far maybe 10-20 ft to start and when he gets to it and goes to pick it up gentle pull the cord to you with steady even pressure to give him the idea to return the dummy to you once he catches on he should do fine but remember he's still fairly young so don't over-do it
