puppy hates leash

hey guys, i am having trouble with my 10 week old lab/ gsp mix puppy. he absolutely hates his leash.. everytime i put it on him he starts flopping around and pulling and jumping. can anyone help me?

One thing I have used in the past to get my previous pups used to a leash is to get a short (4-5ft.) light weight leash and hook it to his/her collar while in the house and leave it on for a while. Do this often until the pup is used to it and doesn't fight it. One thing you should do is use one that you are not going to be using while walking the pup so you can cut the hand loop on the end, this will help keep it from getting cought on things and tying him/her up. You need a short (6') long lead. ALWAYS have the lead hooked on the dog (not in your hand) except when you are doing leash training. Let the dog pull the 6' lead around virtually all the time and it will very soon forget that it is on a leash.

Put a 6' lead on the dog at all times when the dog will be under your supervision -- and just let the dogdrag it around...............Won't be long until it totally ignores it -- and the same will then be true for the leash.
