Default I got a pup!!!

I picked up a beautiful balck lab yesterday. I got her from Black Forest Labs in Colorado. She is a pointing lab and comes from great lines. Dad is Brew from Shadow Mountain Kennels. All I have to do is pick a name.

Very cool ! ! !
Casey is from Black Forest too (from two retired dogs, Grits x Gina).
PLs are very very cool.

What training programs are you going to follow?
Do you go to either/both of the PL Forums?

To answer you doc, I have used Mike Stewart's book in the past. It did very well on my last Lab and a buddies Chessie. There is a book about pointing retreivers that I'm also going to try. I have been thinking about hooking up with a guy locally. He will do day sessions for training. That should clean up any holes in my training. Where are the p/l forums?

The book you are talking about is "The Pointing Labrador", written by my good friends Paul and Julie Knutson. The most recent version (editon) is available on their website at www.gunclub-labs.com/ . This is considered the PL Bible.
The American Pointing Labrador Association's website is at www.americanpointinglab.com/
The other PL site is at www.pointinglabs.com/

For the retriever portions of training, most of us use either
(not in any particular order) "10 Minute Retriever", by John and Amy Dahl or the "Smartwork" series of books by Evan Graham or the "Lardy Artivcles, by Mike Lardy. For the pointing parts of training, we use the Knutson book pretty much exclusively.

Congratulations on your new partner! Treat them right and show them love and respect and the dog will do anything to keep that coming.
