Default All around bird dog

What would be an excellent breed for a South East Texas bird dog?? I see Golden Retreivers all thetime, but I'mlooking for something different. I've always liked short haireddogs. I've owned rotties andboxers.I like the German shorthair. Great looking dog.Adog that can go after dove and be a goodswimer to go after the duck.....

I'm guessing that SE TX is pretty warm to pretty hot. A GSP would be a good choice.

What type of hunting are you going to do? No upland (quail, chukar, pheasants, etc.)? If its just dove and waterfowl, I would suggest some kind of retriever.

A GSP, Wirehair, DD, etc. (any versatile breed) would prolly fit your need. But in the end, you're the one that has to be happy with it.

pudelpointer. You will have everything you could ever ask for in a hunting dog and then some. Plus with the variability in coats, it would be easy for you to find a shortcoated PP.

Good luck,

If you Want a Bird Dog for TX you will need something with a lot of go and a great nose Like a Setter or Pointer. alot of ground to cover.Specific Breeds are for Specific Jobs you will not find a TX Wild Bird Hunter with Junk Like Labs,Pudelpointers? for bird dogs
if you want something that hunts closemaybee you should just walk and find the birds yourself

daleh, not sure what your getting at. Your sentences are running together.
What do you mean by "something that hunts close" ?
I work with guys that have dogs they use for duck and dove and most any bird. I'm just looking for somthing a little different than a lab or golden.

thanx

It's always interesting to see how ignorance chooses to expose itself.

Cheers,
