If you need a dog to point, you are so much better off getting a dog that does it naturally and has been bred to do it naturally for hundreds of years. Setters and pointers come to mind first, then the various continental breeds. If you want a dog to flush game, get a springer spaniel. But don't get a dog that really isn't bred for either and expect to have an easy time training it for something it was never meant to do.
