Default Electric correction collar

Hey everybody i just purchased an electric correction collar for training my lab for duck hunting. I read the manuel but it didnt really explain how is the correct way to use the collar to help with training. It's pretty obvious that if you don't use it correctly it will only worsen bad behaviour. I was just wondering if anybody has any advice on the best way to use the collar when training. Thanks alot

Hey hows the dog doing swimming?? The -ecollar can be the greatesttraining toolin the world, and it can be the worst training tool in the world. When I do e-collar association, I will start couple weeks into the obedience program, and in this I use a low nick, to overlay into what Iam teaching. Timing is everything with the e-collar, and amount of heat, is very crucial, it is very hard to talk about the association, alot easier to show, are there any lab trainers by you?? A very good friend of mine named Woody Thurman, he is at Twin Lakes Kennel, do a search. Woody was working on some videos, I cannot remember if he was doing one on the e-collar association. If not he might know where or who has one, Been a while since I watched Mike Lardies Tapes, dont remember if Mike had that in his program for veiwing. Please understand I am in no way pushing you a side, this is a hard thing to teach over the computer. Some one else might jump in and try, thats fine I am not responsible. I will have to do some searching, try and help more later. With the prior problems that you have had, you might want to treat the collar as a gun, because it can go off at any time, and ruin whatevers on the recieving end. No offense please, just letting you think. Thanks Jonesy

You need to collar condition your dog first...Just let him/her wear it when your out having fun ...leave the control's in the box. I do this for a week or two before actual use. Remember...the collar is for a correction...not to be used before he learns what it is your trying to teach him/her. I used to have my old Tri-Tronic video that I'd send ya.....if I can ever find it.. let us know how it's going...the good and the bad.

The ecollar is almost NEVER used as a correction (unless for something like "Trash Breaking" or "Snake Proofing").
First, you teach the command - then you enforce the command then you re-enforce the command with the ecollar.

Hey Jonsey he's doin fine nowswimming, I'm gonna run with the assumption the water was just too cold for him earlier in the year. Thanks for the advice everybody and Doc E I guess i used the wrong word i dont plan on using it for correctiononly for enforcement. He's known the basic commands very well now. He ismy first dog that i've ever trained and i just want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing so i don't ruin him and i want to bring out the best of him he's a very smart and determined dog. To my knowledge there aren't any professionaly trainers around my area, I live in a small town and not many people hunt here which kind of sucks. The best thing I've got is a buddy who has a well trained 2 year old lab and askin you guys questions on here,
