Default Royal Canin

Hey Everyone. I was wondering if anyone has expiriance with Royal Canin Dog Food. I recently just switched from Diamond to this, and love it so far. I feed Royal Canin Maxi (for large breeds) Labrador Retriever 30. They are out of St.Charles, MO. www.royalcanin.us is the web address if you'd like to check them out. thanks.

My wife and I breed dogs (not hunting dogs, but nobody's perfect!)and have been feeding Royal Canin for several years. Yes, it is a very good premium dog food. It's also on the list of foods recommended by the Whole Dog Journal. Can't go wrong with Royal Canin or any other food listed by the WDJ.

I don't know. A hunting dog is much more active then your average stay at home lab. An average hunting waterfowl day is perhaps 8-10 hours, at 3 times a week. If you do upland then its much more exercise. As a pup before 6 mo. I gave my dog an hour a day, now at 10mo. I'm running her atleast two. One thing you can do is email them and ask if it's recommended for field trial dogs since field trailers run their dog hard, or mushers.

Several Dog foods have had problems over the years. Royal Canin was Kasco. Diamond just might be called something different soon.
Over the years Purina has had one name and sponsered field events and alot more this is what i feed and recommend. Performance by a sporting dog is dependant on a quaility feed. I like to feed Pro-Plan during the hunting season. 30-20 performance, in the summer i switch to chicken and rice with lower pro. and fat.

Why switch foods -- why not just give less of the "hi-powered" stuff?

I switch feed because alot of protein can damage a dogs kidney and liver according to vets (i hope all the red meat, chicken, seafood, and wild game dosen't effect mine)

According to all of the most recent research (one of the researchers is a friend of mine who has a BS & MS in Molecular Biology and a PhD in Canine Nutrition), as long as a dog has healthy kidneys and liver, protein up to 40% causes no problems whatsoever. Too much protein only harms dogs with kidneys that are already compromised.
