Default Cocker Spaniel, Pure Breed

I have a pure breed cocker spaneiel, and he's afraid of guns, knives, etc, but he'll go chasing after any type of animal he sees.. Do you think I should bring him rabbit/squirell hunting?
Here's a picture of him:

Cockers are flushing dogs, if you've got one that has it in him. That means you should try to bring out that natural instinct if it is there. This means birds and maybe rabbits. Squirrels will be a struggle. Even if it trees them opportunistically, it could be hard to bring out any natural desire. Also, if it chases any animal it sees, you are going to wish you had a good shock collar and an education on how to use it. Good luck and let us know what you do.
