What type of collar's do you guys prefer?

I've been looking at all of the different collars that Nite Lite carries and I was wondering what collars you guys prefer? Not so much the material or plies, but as far as a 'D' ring style, or Ring-in-center style collar, and do you like the ring in the front or the back?
I guess the size of the dog would make a difference. I have a wirehaired dachshund for blood-tracking deer. I have a special tracking collar for him, but Im looking for a nice every-day collar with a nameplate. I am thinking a D-loop type collar with the loop in the back. He is so short that if the loop is in the front he will keep tripping on the lead. I was just just curious if there is any advantages to an loop-in-center style loop and why do they call it a "safety" loop or whatever??

they call it a safty ring cause it is suppose to flip over if the collar gets hung up on a fence and will help prevent the dog from hanging it's self. I use the safty collar I get mine from lion county supply you can search for them on the internet. the one I have has the O-ring and a D-ring near the buckle. I like it because you get the safty collar but are still able to hook a lead to the D-ring.
