Default Moving to Texas next year

I'll be moving to Texas sometime early next year in the Tyler-Whitehouse area so my question is where would be the best area to hunt? Deer, rabbits, hogs, whatever. Any info now would be helpful and i plan to print this before i move just in case i wont have access to a computer for a while.

I don't wander much further east than Ft. Worth, so I am not all that familiar with your area. It seems like the eastern two-thirds of Texas has an abundance of deer. I don't think anywhere in Texas is lacking for rabbits. Those pesky critters are everywhere. Lots of places around here have hogs seasonally. When it is wet, they are dispersed everywhere. When it is dry, they don't stray far from the Brazos.

If you are talking about the Tyler Texas I know. . . it is a smallish ag town just northeast of Austin. . . .not many Deer right there. But head west, 1 hour or south west 1 1/2 hours and you get some great hunting. The south west are bigger but perhaps not quite as many as you will find in the Texas, Hill country, edwards plateau (sp?). Most land is private so you will have to find a lease to hunt.

click on this:
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/wma/find_a_wma/

there are numerous Public lands in the area. Lots of Hogs. Lots of Squill. East texas has Squill and rabbit seasons, while other areas do not. If people say there is no big deer there, I bet a $ that's because they are smart enought to come out at night only.

Tyler is a good area. there are gun ranges and cowboy shooting activites there.

RedHawk,

I live in Lindale, which is 12 miles north of Tyler. I posted in one of your other posts on quail.

deer are abundant all over East Texas. Leases are harder to come by. By the way, you might consider the Lindale area instead of Whitehouse or Tyler....10X better school system. Plus Lindale is the fastest growing city in Smith County, Texas. By the time you arrive Lindale will have a Lowe's and a Wal-Mart Super Center. Housing is affordable as well.

should you have any questions just reply to this and I will send you my e-mail address.

Just my 2 cents.
