Any one hunted in Jefferson or Washington NF? Im thinking about planing a 3 day hunting trip during gun season, need to try out my new rem 700, and need to get some leads on camground and where to hunt. looking for a remote area with little hunting pressure. Take,

I wish you all the best in your search, however the national forest will have just as much pressure as the public lands WMA"s. Now you can get around this by hunting during the week in most cases.

The National Forests will be crowded if you only hunt near the access roads. However, if you are willing to hike a little ways you can hunt some land(the 2 forests have over 1.5 million acres) that will have very little hunting pressure. I believe Virginia Game & Fish magazine did an article recently on some places of intrest in Virginias Nat'l Forests. The key is you must be willng to walk. If you let me know what areas you are thinking about, I may be able to give you more info.

I hunted Jefferson years back, to my knowledge it is still good .It was near brushy mtn. on the appilacian trl. by the Audie Murphy monument .,but like all have said the pressure is there plan to walk ,walk deep, and walk early. Good luck! BD

Hmmmm.... I just might take a drive out to Jefferson Forest and look around. I guess it's only safe to say, "If you want to find a big monster buck, you gotta get off the beaten path and find him".

Vance's Cove is part of the GWNF. I have seen good deer taken there every year.
