Default hunting and plinking

I'm new to this. Chat groups that is. I'm also just now starting to hunt again after 30 yrs.
I live in the Dallas Txas area and want to find a place within a few hundred miles that I could go and hunt all during the year. If nothing else just set up a target and fire a few rounds. A long time ago, there was a place called the National Grasslands, but you can't fire anything but shotguns and muzzleloaders there now. Looking at the Texas parks info and trying to find even simple info can be pretty discouraging. I would like to do some squirrel, varmint, deer and antelope hunting and can't afford the prices that private ranches charge. Does anyone out there use public lands and know of some good places to go.

Welcome dyates...Theres not to many places close to the Dallas area....I feel your pain...You just have to keep looking....I know when something inexpensive pops up its gone in no time....Try not to be discouraged there allot of good people you could get to know and then you have them also out there looking for you as well...I will check with a few of my buddies and see whats open...Good luck..Snipe
