Default ELK IN KENTUCKY !!!!!! VA and WV too !!!

A guy told me there is a growing number of elk in kentucky... the VA hunting rule books lists ELKs in there too..... Is this True ?????????????????

Yes this is true. In VA you can acctually use a regular deer tag to tag an elk with. Reason being that VA has no elk season and any that wander over across the border are basically viewed as fair game.

Same rules apply as to deer hunting. Doe days and all that. My father works for VDGIF and he told me that five were killed last year in VA.

As Andy said, yes, its true. I live in Ky and our dept of fish and wildlife along with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation have been restoring elk here for the past six years and the results have exceeded their expectations. We do have a season on them, but for now, its a very limited draw basis. VA and WV has an open season on them because they claim that they don't want them for fear of CWD. But, I really can't see their reasoning for this open season because all of the elk are "tested" before they are shipped out here. Anyway, they're here and it sounds like they're here to stay.

There are in NC, but no season yet.

Update on elk in Ky. Today, I read where there is an estimated 5,000 elk here and that number is growing!! How cool is that!!??[8D]

Thats Pretty Cool... I just don't know how elk will affect other wildlife.. will they hurt the deer herds? THanks
