Gang,

I need help! I'll be in florida this April, and I'd like to get out a few mornings and try for an Osceola! Can anyone stir me towards any state land anywhere near the Zephyrhills area? Any tips would be greatly appeciated

Thanx,

Go to the florida fish and wildlife conservation websight, they should have plenty of info.

Upperhillsborough is almost inside Zephyrhills city limits and is full of turkey. It's open only on Wed. and Thurs. 75 daily permits..first come first serve.

First day or two it opens you have to be real early..some park their vehicles in line the day before..by April you will not have to worry about getting in.

Thanx Ifly,

you have taken away some apprehension I had about hunting during a family vacaton. What type of terrain can I expect? Any tips?

Thanx again,

BHW

It's typical Florida flatwoods..pines, palmetto's with cypress domes scattered all through. Also some real good hardwoods along the creeks. The area I hunt is a real big live oak hammock that drops down into a swamp. If I were going..I haven't hunted it in two yrs...but when I hunt it I take a bike...park the vehicle at last parking area before you get to river (Hillsborough river...really a creek) and ride bike across river and to SW corner http://www.wildflorida.org/hunting/w...llsborough.pdf..look at this map and where the river runs along the fence back in there is where I hunt...if no bike you can walk it..just a little over a mile..You can only drive vehicles on the main, east and west loop rd.

There is also a WMA called Richloam that is in that area,, but I'm not sure if you need a special permit or not. these permits may be drawn for already. Check with the FL. fish and game website. Best of luck!

You only have to have a quota permit for Richloam the first 9days of spring gobbler season..it's very hard hunted, but does have lots of turkey. I was through there a couple of days ago and they were doing and had done a lot of burning..so should really help the hunting.
