Default Hunting help/advice in Texas

Hey to everyone. First post in the forum.

I just got interested in hunting and wanted to do some over the holidays. Im in the DFW area. I know theres a 2 week dove season coming up, but not sure thats what I should do. I've only ever been pheasant hunting and that was about 10 years ago.

Any advice on whats best to hunt this time of year, good areas/leases, amount expected to pay, etc is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

I live in the DFW area as well, and there is good hunting to found, you just gotta find it. Me and my buddies lease in Eastland, about 130 miles west of Dallas. If you don't already have a place to hunt, look online or in the paper. You can find good hunting there, but stay away from Day deer hunting. it is not as successful as you wood hope.

If you are just getting started, try some quail hunting. There are lots of ranches close to here that you can hunt that include guides and dogs. If you hunted pheasant before it should be similar. Start looking early for a lease for next year. You would be surprised how many leases there are that are open, but go unadvertised. Bass-Pro in grapevine used to have a list of open leases and people looking for hunters to fill up their lease.

Hope that helps

I'm in North Dallas and hunting on the spur of the moment here is hard. It takes quite a bit of effort for you to find a place close by. That being said, email me and I can put you on some ducks! About a 40 minute drive from H635 and Centeral Expressway!

If you're looking for bigger game like pigs and whitetail you've got to go a lot further out. I hunt those up around Graham. 2.5 hrs one way!

There is also some type 2 land around the DFW area as well.
