Default Va. DMAP/DMAC tags?

Well I got lucky and managed to find a great place to hunt in Fairfax, it is samll and as a result the guy is only willing to let one person hunt it.

Okay here are my questions:

1. How/where do you get the permits/tags for the Special Urban Archery Season?
2. Where is a check in station in Fairfax?

Hey Taz,

Try this link:

http://www.dgif.state.va.us/hunting/...F.html#Fairfax

I don' t know if Fairfax has a special permit or not. You' d have to check with the DGIF.

Take care and congrats on finding a place to hunt! [8D]

I didn' t think there was a special tag needed. just the normal archery tag and big game tag.

Taz, I do think you have to use bonus tags , Belvoir is doing DMAP for the early seaon and late season, but thats them. Also , Ft.Belvoir is a check station. The only other for you, maybe on your way home is the one at Rt. 234 and Aden Rd. Thats on the way to Manassas but really only 10 to 15 mins off I95.This is a little gas station/store.

The check Station is open longer at Belvoir. If you want, get with me and I will give you the details as to how to get to it. All the deer I take off post(Fairfax) I check in there also. ~Ben

Butch thanks for the link, I tried to find that on the VDGIF web site and couldn' t.

dpv for the Special Early season it is DMAP tags in Fairfax, I just do not know where to get them.

Ben I feel like a bum, I keep meaning to call you and never do! I will try to remember tonight! Ben does Belvoir give you the DMAP tags?

Yes and No, When you hunt there, you have to check into an area, When you check into an area such as T-8 , you would receive a Hunting pass that you keep on your person, you get a parking pass that is displayed on your windshield and you receive 2 DMAP tags. They do not ,that I know of DMAP deer taken off post, but I may be incorrect.I will be there Thurs, to pick up two cams I have out in the woods there. I will ask them how that is going to work since they do check deer taken off post. I was just there last week , checking out the ranges our bow club built. It was rated best in the state by NAFFA or what ever that is. I will find out for ya. I worked for that program for 9 years and know the game warden very well so he may have better details also for off post hunting procedures. Then I am leaving on Sunday to hunt Sika Deer on the Eastern Shore the week of the 15th.I will let you know ASAP.~Ben

I' d like to know about the DMAP tags also, b/c I plan on bowhunting in Fairfax 20 Sept. I know of several game check stations in Prince William County near my parents house. Taz - if you want directions to any of these, just let me know.

Upon further investigation, here' s what I found:

http://www.dgif.state.va.us/hunting/...n_archery.html

Basically, they will be checking them just like during the regular season. You are allowed to use bonus tags (2 for $12.50). Don' t forget, this early season is for antlerless deer only. Good luck all! If I left anything out, let me know.

Ben I did it once again and forgot to call you, I have some litigation that may be coming up with a contractor trying to mess me over and as a result I really do not have my head screwed on straight right now. From what coolbrz says and what the link said Fairfax will not be doing DMAP, but will be allowing bonus doe permits, ask the game warden any how if you see him, but don' t make a special trip, I don' t mind using/buying bonus doe permits now that I know that is legal, $12.50 is dirt cheap for 2 doe! (If I get two)

coolbrz thanks for the info, it was there all along and I just didn' t notice it until you pointed it out. BTW how far off 95 is that check station you are talking about? What road is it on because Butch gave me a link to all the check stations in the seat.

I think the one he' s talking about is Samsky' s. If not that one, Props used to check game, I' m not sure if they still do. Samsky' s is right on the corner of Aden Rd. and 234, approx. 6 miles west of I-95. Once you go by the landfill on your left, it is another mile down on the right. You can' t miss it. If they don' t, Props is a few miles past that also on the right. Depending on where you are in Fairfax, it may be faster to come down 28 South and hit J.E. Rice, right off Mathis Ave. or Manassas Frozen Foods. These are the two I usually use since they' re near my parents house.
