Default I need some Southern advice

I live int he Upstate of SC and I want to plant a food plot in the next few weeks.

I have this location beside and small stream with an irrigation system. This is also among some nice White Oaks.

Any suggestion appreciated.

A good mix would be some annual Ryegrass mixed with Clover. Either Kentland Red or Ladino White. The red grows taller with larger leaves. Not as much protein, but makes up for it in volume. I have both in one plot, the deer walk through the White to get to the Red. The Ryegrass will shade the clover and will provide some quick forage. When it frosts, the clover will come on giving you a plot that will last 3-5 years, depending on how well you can keep the weeds and grass from invading it.

YOU NEED A SALT LICK NEXT TO YOUR FOOD PLOT. YOU WILL HAVE BETTER CHANCE AT BAGGING THAT BIG BUCK. USE BUCKGRUB OR RACK UP. DIG OUT SMALL HOLE IN THE GROUND. POUR THE SALT IN . IT WORKS . HOPE INFO HELPS

Good point, Bobcat. One of my plots has a lick on the edge of it. In fact the lick has been there for over 40 years, long before I put in the plot. After thinning out mature Pines in my timber and the wet spring has produced a wealth of undergrowth. Deer are barely using the food plot, but they still come to the salt lick. They have a path through the clover to it.
