Default End of Virginia Firearms Season

Anyone get out today?

I hunted some new property I just scored in Prince William County. Right outside the battlefield.

The wind was HOWLING. And it was bitter cold.

I got out at 6:30 this morning. Saw a huge fox, but he was moving to fast to take a shot, found an old old bottle (pre prohibition) and an civil war belt buckle, but didn't shoot any deer (I saw 4 as I was walking out, but they were in front of a house).

But the season will continue - as antlerless delight - through March. There was lots of snow still on the ground, and like I said it was bitter cold.

Counter---I wish I could have gotten out today but I was busy the entire day. That is fantastic you picked up that land. Sounds like a good piece of property. I live in Prince William and I know how hard it can be to find places. Good luck.

Man, it sure was cold! With the wind chill I think it was the coldest weather I have ever hunted in. Didn't see anything in the morning and shot a button buck in the afternoon right before last light. I thought it was doe but with it being the last day of the season, it's all good!

Nice. I couldn't make it out last night - had company coming over. That makes sense though, as nothing was moving yesterday morning till 10 am or so when it finally picked up (thank goodness I had the foresight to bring along a larger than normal thermos of coffee). The deer I saw where out and moving to water/food/bedding at about 11:30 or so.

It got pretty windy up here over the course of the day. Wasn't as cold, but the wind was blowing much harder yesterday afternoon. Was it windy by you?? I'm not sure how the deer are going to react to the wind this week.

Wink

Did not go out this last day. Quiet frankly, I was tired and it was colder then a welldiggers a$$!!!

I had a good year. I ended up with five in the freezer, one 5 pt, one 8 pt and three does.

My club did very well also. We had 85 deer taken from the main hunt property in Charlotte County. We still don't have a count from the Surry property.

I will be getting ready to go back out in the woods for crow and yote hunting. We saw quite a bit of yote activity. I had a shot at one that was chasing a yearly deer. I know I hit it him on the first shot, but he never stopped and kept on going like a bat our of hell.

These were just a few of the deer that was in our meat locker:

This was my 8 pt:

The 8 pter. dressed out ot 125 lbs.

I had a nice season hunting with friends. Saw plenty of deer, and have enough meat to last me until next season. Last night I had an 8 pointer in my yard that I had seen in November. I'm glad he made it through the season!

We had a good year.. lots of meat put into freezers and a few nice bucks taken, we passed on alot of small bucks, however on one tract we took the small bucks too as the landowner wanted total numbers down and if we did not do it he was gonna get damage tags in the summer and mow them down, I hte seeing deer go to waste so we stepped up and took out some for him. I will be posting pics form the season in a few days! Good news is we have already picked up a new tract for next year down toward Ashland!

Yep, this time of year is always tough on me with the deer season coming to a close and the Redskins finished playing. Though this year it is a blessing that the Skins have finished up for the Season!! I had one of my best years to date with six deer in the freezer. One is a nice Fifteen pointer that I got during the Black Powder season. It will be hard to top that one, but I sure am going to try. Now for a little rabbit hunting.......
