Default Central VA rabbit hunt - PICS!!!

The running was phenomenal, all the dogs ran in synch and you could consistently throw a blanket over them. We hunted 3 days this week & accounted for 21 out of 25 rabbits jumped. Out of the 4 that got away, 2 holed up in big lap piles & they flat out lost 2. Pics were taken before the blizzard that hammered us w/ 20" of snow last week.

Default Rabbit

That's really neat. I've never been on a rabbit hunt but have always wanted to go. How does it work? Is it like dog hunting for deer where they drive the dogs towards the hunters?

Thanks for the pics! They're awesome.

Sort of, a good pack of rabbit dogs will keep solid steady pressure on Mr. Bunny & most won't run nearly as far out as a deer will. He'll likely double, run down logs & downed trees, through brush & lap piles, & lick his feet to try to evade the dogs. The dogs work the cover & when they jump one, we spread out and hold still. I prefer to rabbit hunt w/ no more than 4 people total as most spots are super thick and safety is an issue (for us & the dogs). Some smaller farms it's just me and a buddy. The rabbits generally run in a circle or figure 8 and return to the general area they were jumped.

Man I sure miss rabbit hunting. I'd give up a week of deer hunting for one day of rabbit hunting.
