Default Bear Island WMA

Anyone ever hunt this area or the Turner River Area just south of it? If so, what can you tell me about it in regards to Deer. Thanks

ok, there are a lot of dee in the TR unit. And in Bear Island, but I would hunt TR over bear island any day!
I have a camp in TR 12 miles N of Monroe, but used to hunt off TR road a lot as well. You will see a ton of does, but there are a lot of Bucks as well. I went down last year for three days, killed 2 bucks, my buddy shot one, missed 2 others, saw 9 other bucks and a ton of does. Granted I have been hunting there for many years and found my "holes" for success. If you'll put in the time and effort to scout off TR road between Concho Billy trail and I-75, you'll find a buck. I walk hunt during the MZ and gun season. That don't mean just go walking. I mozzy from one head to the next slowly and as quietly as possible, hanging out at each head for 5 minutes or so. Water can be your friend, but if you make noise with it, you'll see deer, but running 200 yards or more away. Hope this helps. GL
