Default Virginia affirms Sunday bowhunt ban

Look at the words and phrases I highlighted below.......

Nichols' call for Sunday bow hunting defeated

By LILLIAN KAFKA lkafka@potomacnews.comFriday, January 25, 2008
RICHMOND -- A House of Delegates subcommittee killed a Prince William County delegate's attempt to allow bow hunting on Sundays after hearing protests from farm and agricultural lobbyists.

"The reasons for [opposition] begin with faith, and they expand to those people such as horse riders who enjoy the woods on Sundays," said Wilmer Stoneman III, a lobbyist for the Farm Bureau of Virginia. Del. Paul F. Nichols, D-Occoquan, called the Sunday prohibition of hunting on private property "outdated." He said he proposed the idea at the request of bow hunters who work Monday through Saturday. His bill, HB 1456, would have allowed bow hunting on Sundays on private property for only two years.(Yes the bill said PRIVATE PROPERTY, so how are people in danger of being hit by an arrow?) Before he heard the request, the delegate from suburban Washington, D.C., said he didn't even know Virginia prohibited hunting on Sundays.

"We've had this ongoing discussion about hunting on Sundays," said R. Lee Ware, R-Powhatan, chairman of the subcommittee. He joked and asked Nichols, "Boy, why'd you bring this bill to this committee?"( I can hear the Duke's Of Hazard song in the background), Katie Kyger Frazier, lobbyist for the Virginia Agribusiness Council, said the only day during hunting season that horse riders can ride in the woods without fear of coming into crossfire is Sundays.(ITS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY MORONS!)

PATHETIC but I will write Delegate Nichols and tell him thank you for his attempt to change the law.

Go figure...

I'm beginning to believe that the only way we Virginians are going to be able to hunt on Sunday is to not hunt at all. Meaning, hunters statewide not purchasing licenses or permits, not purchasing new gear (guns, bows, 4 wheelers, etc) and not buying any item or service that has to do with hunting. I wish there was a way to come up with a figure that we put in the economy every year. I bet there would be a major trickle down effect too, such as, the government bailing out businesses who failed from it. Which would be funded by everyones tax dollar, even that horse rider trespassing on someones private land on Sunday. Insurance companies would be dealing with damage from the deer population doubling in one year. Shelters will be begging the government for more money to feed the hungry since no venison would be donated. VaGIF would not be able to fund their budget. The list would go on and one.

Yeah, I know, alittle far fetched, but it WOULD work!

UFunny2,

I think you're right.... I'm so disgusted andjust so, totally, outraged right now. I mightskip out next season in protest. I can easily buy a nonresident license and go hunting in Ohio (where there's big bucks and Sunday hunting).

Wow I really thought we had a chance.
I guess the horseback riders really only come out on sundays, because I have never seen any while hunting on our PRIVATE property....

Joey--I have NEVER seen horseback riders or joggers while hunting private or public land during hunting season and I have been hunting in Virginia for 15 years. Where have we gone as a society? I mean really it is laughable.

Seems like we need more people there fighting for us. I just don't see why the VAC is so against hunting on sunday.
The whole horseback riding/jogger thing is just an excuse.
Looks like we got a long way to go before we can hunt on sundays.

We definitely need to get organized to get the ban lifted. [/align]

The VHDA was aligned with the groups that are against SH, I think a lot of hunters will remember that when they need help on issues involving hunting with hounds.

Just shows the VHDA is for the continued use and abuse of hunting as they see fit. If they don't care about dogs on your private land they're not going to care about your hunt on sunday either. They're also against the proposed law for increased penalties for tresspass with a weapon while looking for dogs. They don't want a fix to the dog issues, and they don't want you to have a chance to hunt either.
