Default Newbie here//NoVa

Old Newbie here. Started getting into hunting in 95 then stopped in 2001 due to many family issues (read: babies).

Shotgun: deer/turkey (Rem 870)
Bow: deer and attempted turkey (ha!) (PSE Baby G-Force)

Getting back into it-didn't realize how much I missed it until after a 3 day shotgun hunt in Ohio last week. I don't know why that made me miss it as I froze my a$$ off and didn't take anything.?. Seems alot like the first go at this....

Living in Northern VA (this is not the south!) and looking for some tips on getting out into the area. Somewhat close to Fairfax county. Give me a shout.

Have to give a shout out to my hunting mentor-Nalley in Louisville (if you're still around). The "Buckmaster" taught me everything I know always made me look bad by taking a buck/tom everytime we went out.

Wanted to say hi.

Hugh

Hey Hugh,
Welcome ...I use to live in that area. I also got a relative in Culpepper. I lived in Alexandria ,VA ..near Fairfax. When I hunted I would drive home to where i was born..Cecil County , Maryland. I did get some awesome fishing permission in some near by ponds in VA.

My only place I hunted in VA was Fort AP Hill. I only hunted there one year and saw LOTS of game..The fishing there was secondto none..Those big ponds get barely used. AP HIll is south from Fairfax anbout 60 miles..diffently worth the drive. When I lived there ..the fort was only used sparingly by the National Guard .

Hugh,
Check out http://www.wmahunters.org/index.php, it is a forum for the WMA hunters in VA. I live in Woodbridge and go out ot C.F. Phelps WMA. Fort Belvoir and Quantico are close also.

Welcome, I'm in NOVA also. There'sa good group of guys on here a lot of whom I've met and hunted with. I'm sure our temps are cake compared to OH right now, get out and hunt, it'll feel like 70 degrees!

Not that way anymore. Used quite often by all services including Canadian and British forces. Still a good place to hunt with liberal bag limits IF you learn several of the areas. I've been hunting there for 8 years and have been quite successful.
