Default Need help in VA.

Guys, I will be moving to the Chesapeake area in the next few months and i would realy like to know how the hunting is in the area. Can any of you point me in the right direction for some decent hunting areas. I am not asking to sit in your stand with you, i would just like to get a head start on scouting in the spring. We all know what a pain it is to re-locate and have to start all over again, so any help will be appriciated.

Default RE: Need help in VA.

Chesapeake has some good deer hunting. The only thing that sucks is the fact that general firearms season comes in Oct 1 and runs through Nov. 30. Then bow season finally opens on Dec.1. There is a plus side to that in the fact that the temps are finally getting cold by then but the deer have been hunted pretty hard by the (dogs, rifles, etc). Down side is that spring and summer patterning go out the window as soon a gun season opens.

If you are active duty, or retired military or DOD civilian I can put you on some land right in Chesapeake. If not I can tell yousome other public lands available between 25 miles and 150 miles, depends on how much you want to drive. VA has a ton of excellent WMA's and State & National Forest land as well. Not to mention that NC is right below us as well.

There is an archery shop at the intersection of Battlefield Blvd. and Johnstown Road called Great Bridge Archery. It is a small shop but they do have an indoor range that is almost 20 yards and the staff is helpful.
