Default next season...........

Do you cats start clearing more and putting up stands in different places or wait till later. I like to get in now, its easier and leaves less at the pre season prep.

Finding spots now is a good idea as some deer may go back to early season patterns. Leaving your stands out until next year puts undue wear on them and puts them at greater risk of being stolen, so it is usually best to bring them in to maintain/repair them and have your spots picked out for next year. If you use screw-in steps, go ahead and leave those out. To me, putting those things in the trees is the hardest part about putting a stand up. If you do that though...don't ever plan on getting them out of the tree again!

Most of my stands are made of treated lumber, sealer is put on there. They are bolted to the trees. So bringing in the stands is not an issue. As far as cutting back, man if we don't do it now you can't get in without a bushhog......briarhog...........maybe add some GOATS...[8D]
It gets thick here. Woods here have a over whelming amount of Army briars and such. If we don't cut backand clear out now, while its mostly dead, you don't hunt unless, you stayon the edge ofthe fields.
Another BIG REASON..none of the WASKEETERS are out now. They get really bad here when it gets warmer. I'll post some pics of before and after. I have another 200 acres I got this year to hunt. I'll be putting up a stand or two. Thats a total of about 1000-1500 acres here Ican hunt.
