Default Lucky in VA!

I have not been on her in a while but I thought I would share a little of my good fortune! I have been blessed this year with the good fortune of seeing quite a few deer and taking two of them. First one was a nice 6 pointer that weighed in at a respectful 160 pounds. I took him three weeks ago at about 7:40am with my good ole 30-30! But the highlight so far was last Friday morning. At 6:15am, a doe came out of the woods and into the soybean field I was hunting. The field had just been picked the previous weekend. After about 5 minutes, I heard two very distinct sounds coming from the area she came out of. The sound of those grunts definitely got my heart beating a little faster!!! After a few seconds, out stepped the main attraction! As soon as he cleared the high grass, I could see he was definitely a shooter! After a few tense moments, waiting for him to turn broadside, I let loose the shot from my .270 and dropped him straight in his tracks. After a little self celebration and quite a few thank you's to the man upstairs, I climbed down to collect the gift I had been given!!! He ended up having 11 scoreable points (typical) and had a live weight of 200 pounds. Yes, I got the scale out and weighed him before I field dressed him, to date he is the biggest bodied deer I have ever taken, so I was a little excited. Unfortunetly, I am at a part-time job right now so I don't have access to my pictures. But, I will post them as soon as I get a chance!
Anyway, I just wanted to share a little of my good fortune and hope that with this post some of my good luck will rub of on someone else!!!!
Good Luck And Be Safe!!!!

I heard there were some decent sized animals in that area. I hunt an area in Tappahannock, AP Hill and Goshen. I've been successfull in all three areas this year and am heading back to the Goshen property today until Thur. Good luck on the rest of your season.

We didn't see anything this weekend.

Oh well, there is a nice long weekend coming up, perhaps I'll have better luck then.

BTW, where were you hunting with a .30-30 three weeks ago??

Congrats on the deer and I never noticed that the rifle season started so early in Chesapeak. Oct 7th start date is awsome. Thanks for the story.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply, countertop! Virginia Mike answered your question with his post, but i will answer it again. Chesapeake's gun season starts the first week of October and runs til the end of November. Which is why it has taken me all week to respond!!! LOL! With Thanksgiving being this week and with yesterday being the first of a week of either-sex days, I have been plenty busy! I took my 5 yr old out with me tonight, but all we saw were some squirrels and a few fox. Hopefully we will have a little more luck tomorrow! I can't be mad though, because I was really proud of him today!!! He sat in the stand with me for 2 and a half hours and sat almost completely still!!! I think I moved more looking around for deer than he did! And he was so excited when we left(even after not seeing a single deer!) that when I asked him if he wanted to go with me tomorrow, he answered with an emphatic YES!!! Well, I can't wait til I leave this part-time job and spend some more quality time with my favorite hunting partner!!!
I hope you all have a safe holiday and good luck this season!!!
