Are they any good WMA's in the area? And hows the deer hunting? If anyone in the the area is intrestedmaybe we can get together some time and do a little bit of scouting.

Newb,

Hey man, Im a student at FSU i live in tallahassee which is less than an hour from madison. I do as much hunting as I can around here, and there is quite a bit of public land and some really great WMA's. Id love to go out scouting and show you the areas. When are you going to be up here?

Yes you have San Pedro WMA over 50,000 acres. The club I use to belong too, borders San Pedro. 70 members leased 1,700 acresfrom Proctor & Gamble.

Fellas - I live in VA but may be getting transferred down to the Tampa area(I'm young and single, and wouldn't complain). I haven't been back to FL in over 20 years, and I was curious, since we're on the topic of FL hunting land, how the hunt is across the state these days? I have read that duck hunting there is still pretty good, but I was curious as to the rest of it.

WW393, the best location I have found in Fl to duck hunt is Lake Talquin outside Tallahassee, Fl.

Hey guys, I actually live in Tallahassee and go to school at FSU (Go Seminoles!)... Lake Talquin can have great duck hunting, but it can get crowded. Within a 20 min drive of Tallahassee you can get on Lake Jackson, Lake Talquin, and Lake Iaomonia which are great duck hunting. There are numerous other lakes within 30 mins. Im a born and raised florida boy, and the hunting can be great in certain parts of the state. We have a great public land system, but like anywhere else it can get crowded. Private leases are around, but the prices are quickly being driven up due to increasing populations and less land. Nevertheless, Florida still has great hog hunting, Osceola hunting and of course duck hunting. The deer hunting is the best it has been in a few years... in fact last year number 10 ever in the state was taken.

here is an article on the #2 from public land buck taken last yr also

and people say florida deer are like dogs - psh!
AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON FISHING!
Im a proud Floridian if you couldnt tell, come on down and check out our beautiful state!
