It seems to be that wild quail have not been seen in most parts of the south for sometime. I have seen more and hear them call in the last 2 years than i have seen in a long time. i used to hunt alot of public land and did not find any for along time.
HAS ANYONE BEEN HUNTING ON PUBLIC LAND AND FOUND QUAIL?
I see an occasional covey in south Bama and N W Fl, but they are geting few and far between. Most of the people I know that like to shoot quail go with the pen raised birds. One grower I heard of raised close to 240,000 birds last year.
There are rumored to be quail here in VA, but IMHO they've probably mostly disappeared on public land because of the rapidly changing landscape. There are places here where you can hunt them on private preserves, though.

I set up quail habitat for a farm in Ameilia, VA he already had a few wild coveyson the place I heard alot of quail calling that summer aroundthe field trial grounds andcamp grounds were they have the blue grass festival.
I would love to go but, i have alot of responsibilities here.
Besides, i have 30 wild coveys on this place. i can't find each one everyday but at least can find 12-15 on average.
when a front moves inyou can find more out feeding
Yes, onmost wild bird hunts especialy when the guests are ridding horses
Can't seem to find anyone with enough experience to handle my field trial dogs or ride and handle at the same time.
