Grouse, or any, hunting the Dry River Range District
Fellow hunters,
I had in mind going hunting at the Dry River Ranger District near Harrisonburg, VA for ruffed grouse, primarily, but maybe rabbit & squirrel, depending on how the populations of any of these are doing. Does anyone know? I recall reading that the grouse hunting there was at least decent.

Good luck finding grouse anywhere in the state. In general, the population of grouse in VA has been steadily declining for quite awhile. My dad hunts for them almost exclusively, but this year he has about given up. You may have a good chance to get some squirrels though. I've seen lots of them this year. Let us know how you fair.

Thanks, Criggster. Sort of depressing that there aren't many grouse left. I really would like quail, but I'd have a better chance of seeing Elvis, I think.
The Dry River may be a ways to go for some squirrel, but I'll let you know, man.

Good luck with finding any grouse. I been 3 times (Rapp. & N. Fauq. Co.)and haven't flushed a single bird. The shooting preserves are about the only place find any birds at all. I did jump several woodcocks during deer season.
