Default anyone hunted at the hagerman wildlife refuge near sherman tx?

i am going to try to hunt there next year, they do a drawing and only let 70 hunters in everyyear.

it is bow hunting only. if you shoot a doe, that gives you an exemption for the next year.

in the last five years they have had two deer from there that went over 190 i believe, big non typicals.

just wondering if anyone has hunted there and what you thought about it.

I know a couple of people that have hunted there. Neither drew any blood. They seem to have mixed feelings about it. No vehicles allowed in. Either you have to walk in or take a bike. You can be hunting within a few yards of somebody else and not know it. One friend was drawing on a pack of hogs and somebody in another tree that he didn't know was there shot before he did. Scared him pretty bad. This wastheearly hunt when all of the leaves were still on the trees. Also heard of peoples tree stands disappearing. It's better to spend the day in your stand if you can stand it. Hope this helps a little. I know it sounds kind of negative.

yeah, public land hunting is always kind of hit or miss. i think we are going to try it though, the thought of a bif non-typical walking around out there is too hard to let go.

it will also be my first year with a bow so i am looking forward to it.

I lived in Denison and knew the Hagerman Refuge manager and I saw some of the Sheds from there. And being from Fla I can say they were HUGE! That was in the early 90s I have not been there in a long time. But there were some Monsters there...
