Default .17 Mach 2 on groundhogs

.17 Mach 2 not the .17 HMR.

Has anyone tried the Mach 2 on groundhogs yet? Whats the max range it will take a groundhog?

I haven't had a chance to test mine on groundhogs yet because turkey season dont close untill may 15th and the regs. here state that you cant varmint hunt with rimfire or centerfire firearms when turkey season is open. Ive shot everything from squirrels to fox'es with mine but couldnt find the fox, I know I hit it but couldnt find any blood, only a few hairs.

your are going to lose a lot of animals with that gun. do the animals bigger than the squirrels a favor. and buy a bigger gun.

The Mach 2 should be enough gun for a ground hog if you don't go over 70 or so yrds with it. I know I've shot a couple groundhogs with a .22lr at 50-70 yrds and it worked just fine. Lucky for us in PA we can hunt groundhog during the turkey season (but only with the weapon you are hunting turkey with.. shotgun or bow in the Spring) from dawn till noon.. then after noon you can hunt the groundhogs as usual.

A friend of mine uses his 17 mach 2 for jack rabbits, he says hes nailed a few at 125+ yards. I use my 17 HMR for jack rabbits and have hit a few at 200 yards and it does fine, id imagine the 17 mach 2 should be fine to 100 yards or so. For ground hogs id limit the shots to about 75 yards though.

You'll need at least a 300 win mag for ghogs.

Why not just go .17HMR. Its only 2-3 bucks more for a case and you get a lot more performance.
I got a .17HMR and have never regretted getting it.
