Default .22-250, .243 or 25-06 rifle?

I want to go varmit hunting in the desert and mountians of San Diego County. I'd would hunt coyots mostly, but other game as well.

Would any of these calabers be a good overall choice for long range shooting. All my other rifles are 7.62 and above.

y not get a 223. easy on pelts and kills clean and is cheap to shoot and accurate. You could also use the 243 with some 55grBT's.

For long distance shots, the 25-06 is the one to beat. Its larger bullets buck the wind better and give it more punch. But a .243 and a 22-250 will both do well at distance, also. The 22-250 shoots a smaller bullet, so it doesn't damage the hides as much. For myself, I use a .223 and a .25-06. The .223 will handle anything out to about 300 yards, but I use the .25-06 if I think my shots are going to be 200 yards or further.

I vote 223 because of the cost of ballistics and the gun itself. My part of Texas its hard to find a 22-250 under 500.00 thats a cheap model too!

I'd go with the .22-250 or the 25-06 myself in you're not to worried about the hides.

Any one of those sounds good to me. Id take any one of those any day. But for long shots like out to 400 yds id go to the 25-06.

If you aren't keepin the pelts i would use one of the 7.62s. But if you really wanna buy another rifle (who wouldn't), I would go 25-06 if you ain't keepin pelts, if you are going to keep'em i would go 22-250.
