Hi, back in the 1960s my dad and I were very much into coom hunting, we had some of the first Plotts in our area of West Virginia.
We killed three blond coon one fall and I believe three more over the years.
They were a true blond color and the rings on the tails and highlights on the rest of the fur were kind of pinkish orande in color.
the eyes were an amber color and the nose and bottoms of the feet were the color of a chocklate Labs nose.
At the time they were an oddity but fairly common in our area.
I have not heard of one being killed here in recent years.
At one time I did a lot of trapping and caught two blond Fox, the old timers here called them Sampson fox.
They were about the same color phase as the coon, the big difference was the fur,it looked more like shearling lambs wool than fox fur.
I am pretty sure they were Red Fox the tail tip and other features were the same, probably some genetic deficiency.
A fellow trapper friend of mine also caught a blond mink.
Last fall a friend living in Oakland Md.
found a blond squirrel ran over on the road,It appeared to be a strain of grey squirrel, certainly not a ligh colored fox squirrel.
I guess the blond color phase in animals is more common than we realize.
