RE: pelt saving loads
i would use the 22-250 with slow moving soft points. never had any luck with the v maxes. to many "splash" wounds. or you could go the other way and push Berger 50 MEF's as fast as you can. either bullet will work well with the bobcat and yotes but the do do some damage to a fox on broadsize shots
i have tired a 243 and the horandy 243 win 75 gr. hollow points worked well with coyotes but will do nasty things to a bobcat or fox. i.e. last year while hunting yotes i called in a fox and decided to shoot it. 70 yard shot. the bullet hit dead center in his neck went out on his back left hip and let me tell you it wasn't pretty. it's intestings where hanging from trees 7 ft. in the air. couldn't even take the hide that was left.
as far as a new gun i have had great luck with the 221 fireball and the 17 Mach IV
