Default .22 stinger vs pigeon

today i shot a pigeon at 25 yards with a stinger right above the breast dead center and there was a big cloud of feathers and it rolled backwards. wen i got to close enough to it i was shocked. the head and neck were only hangin by a little piece of skin. i was quite impressed that a rimfire could do that do a larger bird. cant wait till i get my 17hmr.....

Please be careful of your backstop 22 Lr can go over a mile and even a long way after going thru a bird. Whats behind your target?

Johnch is right. Safety first!! I got a litle grey squirrel a couple of years back. Shot him square in the middle of his back and it just about ripped his arm off. I have a picture but it's too big to post here and I don't have the program to shrink it. Stingers are kick butt.

you realy shouldnt get that 17 hmr you know...the bullets are mostly only 17 grnsand a 22. is 22. grns.if you realy want stuf to blow up when you shoot it get the savage 223. about as much as one of those 17. rifles would cost put a scope on it buy 44 grn winchester hollowpoints and you will be exploding animals at a MUCH farther range than you would with a 17. hmr...................I realy hope you will not waste your money on that 17....also the bullets price difference is alot.for 500 rnds of 55 grn holow point 223. costs about 120$$....for 500 rnds of 17.hmr hornady v-max 17 grn bullets will run you about $$$$$$250.00....alot more

Actually most .22 Lr's are 40 grn bullets, not .22 grns. Both the .17 and the .223 can get out there and touch them.. the .223 can get a little farther. Just have the watch the wind with both of them. You may want to look at your local hunting laws concerning caliber restrictions. I live near Philadephia, all surrounding counties are considered "special regulation" and are limited to .22 cal rimfire or less. So in my case a .17 HMR would be a better choice. But things are different in different places.

Cabelas sells bulk ammo.. They got 500 rds of .17 HMR (CCI hollow point) for $90.. so if .223 is really $120, you'd be better off with the .17.. according to price. Both calibers have their ups and downs. Just depends on what you want to hunt, what the legal restrictions are for that specific game, and where you plan to hunt (fairly populated or in the middle of nowhere).

Ive shot tones of gophers with stingers and if you hit them just right they will blow 2 feet into the air, not to mention the gophers gutted.
