Default Ferrets

I hunt in the UK and I've heard that it's not legal to use ferrets for hunting in America, is this true for all states?

Would they chase rabbits?

It is illegal in Indiana where I live . You can't use them for anything but target practice .

I have an older friend that I rabbit hunt with. He swares that if you send a ferret down a rabbit hole that they will drive every rabbit from there regardless if they were run into the holes by dogs or not.

Never tried it. I'd be tempted to shoot those extra-long dumpster rats.

I know for sure that ferreting is illegal in Iowa, and I'm reasonably sure that it's illegal nationwide.

I do have two ferrets, one hob and one jill, but they are pets.

Is it true that you use a net with holes big enough to allow the jill through but not the rabbit, and then send the jill down the hole to fluch out the rabbits into the net? Then send the hob down to drag out the jill if necessary? I remember reasing that in an old hunting magazine years ago.

Other than hunting with dogs, the only other type of animal assisted hunting we can do is falconry (which, IMO, would be a seriously cool sport/hobby to try, but it's hard to find falconers to train under).

At one time in Wi. you could use ferrets to hunt with,my Dad would put the ferret down a rabbit den and then put a sack over the hole, and sack the rabbit when he came out.But sometimes you got a supprise catch.

Yeh you can use nets over the holes, guns, dogs and hawks. Ferrets can also be used on rats, they usually kill them in the nests but sometimes the rats bolt, then you shoot 'em.
