Default how would your state handle this?

Here in Indiana bobcats are being reintroduced by the state DNR. The other day my neighbor was yote hunting when three yotes came running across the field with what appear to be another yote chasing them. My neighbor chose to shoot the one chasing them and well it turned out to be a bobcat with a tracking device around its neck. I dont know where the corpse went but the collar he put in his barn close to the road so the conservation officer/biologist could find it.
how would this be handled in you alls state?

probally a hefty fine......maybe losse of hunting liscense and such....maybe jail time....no reason for not identifying your target.....thats how accidents happen........what did your state do???????? they find the collar yet?? its in his barn.....they will find it and question him......he might as well call and report it.....

It is legal to shoot marked or tagged game in Alaska, but you have to notify the department of when and where you took it. The tag or collar must be returned to the department though.

It is spelled out right in our regulations of what to do, I'd suggest to your neighbor that he look into the regs or call the department. No sense risking a hunting violation over something like this.

in manitoba, if it was thegame you were after you just tell them and send in the thing and thats it. if their is no bobcat hunting yet then they will want to know why it was shot. when they see it has stoped moveing the will check it out and find in on his barn.

More then likely an fine and possible jail time unless it was self defense i would think anyway. My dad and I almost hit a bobcat on our way home from a camping trip but i couldn't tell if it was tagged or not. Glad my dad had a good reaction otherwise that bobcat would have been a grilled kitty [:'(]

A bobcat looks a lot like a larger version of a domestic cat, and a coyote looks like a small to medium sized dog/wolf.

Here's a coyote:

And here's a bobcat:
