Pelt/Hide advice

After 13 or so years of not hunting and moving to a new state (Ohio) I'm going to start hunting again now. In the past, I've hunted for meat, but I would like to make more use of animals, particularly deer by tanning the hides. There is also good coyote hunting around here, but I don't want to just leave them lying where I shoot them like other people around here do. It just seems wrong to me.

So, how can I learn to tan or preserve hides/pelts? I do not have a fat wallet, if you know what I mean, but I do not mind hard work.

Can anyone put up some suggestions or links for me?
