Hey jackdee, I hunt coyote and I use a 12 guage 3 inch mag
#5 shot. Buckshot 00 is also good, better for longer range
shots. Both work well, hope this helps.

Default RE: what shot to use ??

me and my dad use #4 buck - BB on the yotes here in southwestern ontario.....

xx full choke for the BB and full for the #4 and u will take em down out to 50 yards....well at least thats the farthest shot we have taken on one and dropped it cold. u dont really have to use such big shot on them but the farther the target the larger shot u need.....

we usually like shot but i still take a slug or 2 incase they out to 100 yards or so...

nuttin beats usin a single shot full choke 12g for eevrything.....shoots excellent patterns at 40 yards for turkey, shoots slugs for deer out to 100 yards (5-6" patterns) and bein a single shot it trains u to make one shot count.....

let me know how u do with huntin yotes with yer scattergun ok

Took this from the NYS DEC site:

http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/d...ame.html#Night

Furbearer Hunting at Night
You may hunt furbearers at night, with or without a light, as follows:

Use any handgun.
Use a shotgun loaded with shot (any size).
Use a rifle chambered in any cartridge, except that you may not possess a centerfire rifle afield, during the day or night, during any open season for deer in areas restricted to using a shotgun only for deer.
If hunting without a light, the use of a light gathering (" starlight" ) scope is legal on any firearm listed above.

This page was last modified June 15, 2003

You can use a 22 mag or if in rifle zone a centerfire rifle is ok in deer season.
