Default Embarrassing Ammo price!!

So I have been falling in love with these Hevi-Shot Dead Coyote shotshells, that is until I went to pick up a few boxes today.

I have shot about a hundred rounds or so of these through patterning and dumping some coyotes this winter. My wife works in town, so she had been picking them up at the Gander Mountain, so I had never seen what they cost until I tried to buy some myself today... over $4 per shot... Seriously?

Right then and there I realized how much my wife loves me, because she had never complained about buying them, even though she'd doled out around $400 for the few boxes I'd shot already!

I was honestly embarrassed to have them in my basket. I'll tolerate shooting premium turkey or buckshot loads that run $2 a shot, because I can easily justify that premium RIFLE ammo is worth $2 a shot to me, and we don't shoot that much for turkeys, but when it comes to buckshot for stomping coyotes, boy did I feel foolish...

Well, I guess it's back to all lead 00buckshot for this predator caller!!!

You just saved 1/2 what you were spending.

When I'd heard how great that ammo was I visited some sites for prices.I couldn't believe what I found either.Even buying the components to reload is absurd. The prices on the chokes most recommended for it aren't much better.I'll stick with buffered 4 buck and BB's.The coyotes die just as well.

In general, I run Winchester Super-X 00buckshot, which I usually stock up on for about $5-6 per box, or around $1-1.50 a shot, been using this load (primarily, but not exclusively, because I love trying new stuff) for around 20yrs. The Dead Coyote stuff is running $42.99 per 10, so call it $45 after tax, or about $4.50per shot. Even at $2 per shot, I'm doing pretty good.

It just seems ridiculous to price shot THAT high. It's a great product, and definitely better than my old standby buckshot loads, but worth $4.50 per shot? Not hardly.
