Default Coyote?

Im fairly new to cotyote hunting, and recently bought a foxpro call . I see the signs such as scat and tracks but cant seem to have any luck locating them atnite with locater calls or have them come in while hunting for them. Ive been playing the wind and natural cover very consistantly. Im just not getting any results to them responding to rabbit or rodent distress sounds and I'm also using a rabbit decoy on some stantactics with no luckds, so im mixing up my tactics with no luck or glimpse of a yote , fox, or bobcat. (I know in CT bobcats are illegal to harvest but it would still be an adrenailine rush to see one up close). Has anyone had any luck this season and is there something I can try to better my odds? I have over 1100acres on 4 different farms ,so im not over hunting or pressuring them I believe! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike

Mike, seems this year is hard for everyone. Myself, I tend to get frustrated after setting up so many times and not getting any action. Most places I hunt have yote tracks around in fresh snow but wether they are in the same place when I'm calling is yet another thing. Any kills I've had with the caller are either very first light or last light. I don't seem to get a lot of action during the day.

Keep trying it will happen...

It has been a tough year in just about every State this year, warm un-seasonable weather is not helping with getting the Coyotes out moving to look for food and most are moving at night.

I have read what others are trying and at this time of the Year the Coyotes are mating so any Female Invitaion Howl may work,Barking and Pup Distress sounds seem to be the ticket...I was out this evening and had several Coyotes barking and howling but none came in and it got dark on me so I packed it up and walked home.

Stay after the Coyotes and enjoy being outdoors, that usually helps me get thru a Hunt that no Coyotes show up on....its also that time of year when the Bucks are loosing their Antlers so Shed Hunting while walking in to call Coyotes makes it worth the trouble!

As GTO stated it's their mating season (Jan-Feb) so I would try a challenge call, you could get the alpha male to come running to protect his turf and female.

Females have 60-66 day gestation period, pup calls would work better after they've had the litter. IMO using pup calls now is like putting doe estrus out in the opening of archery season it's not natural for it at that time.

Yotes in the east have a territory of about a mile, that may change it's size or location because the amount of food available to them and they spend alot of time scent marking and patrolling. It's just a matter of time before you have success.
