Default Need some advice.

Ok so when i go camping or just walking into the woods I always carry some sort of firearm on me for protection. Around my area there are bob cats, a few black bear and some people say that they have seen mountain lions, which i highly doubt the later. The gun i usually carry is one of my 12 ga. shotguns and some high brass #6 shot and i was wondering if this would actually protect me from any of those animals, i understand that at 25 yards or so it probably wouldn't but how about close range? say 5 or 10 yards?

at 5 yards a load of 6's will blow a hole you can throw a cat through.

If it didn't kill the bear it could blind him for sure.

For up close, that'd put a hurting on anything! Most of those things listed don't really present any danger though! But I'd say the set-up is sufficient!
