Default .204, .223 or .22-250?

Looking to get a new rifle to target shoot and coyote hunt with. What would be your suggestion between these calibers?

.204 = lastest & greatest

.223 = least expensive

.22-250 = classic predator cartridge

I own a .204 Savage 16FCSS; Use Hornady 40 gr.V-max and all inside the bullseye from the bench off bags at 100 yards.

...............and a number of dead yotes !

for a typical hunting situation, the 204 has the same trajectory to 300 yards as the 223 with a 35 gr bullet. I'd hafta say 223 since you threw target shooting into the equasion, but I highly reccomend at least a 9 twistRR

223, its the cheapest to shoot, will do pretty much anything the 22-250 will. The 204 is affected by wind to much.

For target AND hunting you have to go with the .223. Plus the ammos cheap.

Thanks folks. Supposing I will go with the .223 for ammo price. Looked at a Ruger mini 14 pretty strongly today, but haven't made my mind up yet. I would like to get something semi-auto for the option of several quick shots. Usually more than one dog comes in at a time seems like. I want to get them all!

Take your time and make sure you like the gun you buy not just because it's a good deal.
Remember with predator rifles the problem is not the :selection it's choosing.
Happy Hunting,

Sam
