Default Distress calls--

I'm thinking about getting one of the Foxpro Jack-in-the-box remote distress calls to lure the coyotes out of the woods and into the open. This is one of those that has the attached furry looking appendage that moves aound along with the sounds of a rabbit in distress--have any of you used one of these remote callers and do you have any advice or pointers? We have plenty of coyotes in the area and Iv'e been told that they are often out along the fence rows in the middle of the day--I'm thinking set the thing up, back off about 50 yards or so, stay still, stay hidden and wait--and of course be mindful of the wind direction--any suggestions?-----------John

The Fox Pro's are great units, but don't waste your money on the decoy attachment, because it's simply not needed.

Definately not needed. I use toliet paper on a stick works the same. I killed a yote at 30 yds who charged it.

The unit I'm looking at has some good features and happens to have the decoy as part of it. A friend has one with a fifty foot attached speaker I'm going to try first, rechargeable---I got to get them out of the woods and out into the field or at least along the edge of the woods where I can see them. Thanks for the input-------John

Kind of like hunting turkeys, I decoy or the lack a decoy can work for or against you sometimes. I've seen coyote shy away from decoys and I've seen 'em come so hard to decoys that makes a guy wish he had a shotgun. A decoy is just another thing to carry and really just is NOT a necassary piece of gear to kill coyotes.
If you set up correctly, you'll get the coyotes out where you can see them, without a decoy.

It all depends on what budget you have. I've used the lower end electronic calls like the Prey Master Didgital caller with success and a call by Game Tracks game calls. Game tracks hold lots of sounds, its not difficult to operate and more than enough volume. But I still have my mouth calls handy-at times the've made a difference. The majority of the time I hunt with a friend here in northeast Ohio. One with a rifle and one with a shotgun just because of the terrain. We've had coyote's on top of us before you know it and the shotgun is just more practical. As for decoys, I've had them work and not. I've used rabbit pelts, turkey feathers even those furry wind socks you see on a camera mic. Anything in which I think you can get a little movement from is good, this will get his attention and away from you. In more open country where you can see them coming it's not as important because you have a little better advantage, especially from an elevated position. But don't miss, cause you just made a smart critter smarter. And playing the wind, scent control and good Camo is essential. Good Hunting
