what is the best type of call to use this time of year? I know its there mating season, so should i use a howl, or stick to an animal in distress?

When the leaves are off and the sound carries far I like a woodpecker distress. I don't know if you use electric or hand? An open reed like a crit-r call pee wee is easy to get the sound though.

I'd stick with animal distress. Anytime of the year they'll be hungry, especially in the cold seasons like now. I posted a thread about this hand call i highly recommend. *** they say it's mainly for bobcats, but i've had a ridiculous amount of success callin in coyotes with it. if you happen to spot a bobcat, you're still good to go with this call.
