Air Rifle for squirrel hunting ??????

Anyone use an Air Rifle for Squirrel hunting? If so what type of gun are you using?

I have an old RWS air rifle that I got about 15 yrs ago. decent gun for squirrels.

I bought a refurbished Gamo 220 Hunter from Cabelas, spring piston job for less than $100. It will drop squirrels to about 20-25 yds. no prob. My wife shoots them every day off the bird feeder.

i shoot an rws. i have dropped them as far as 35 yards.

RWS, Diana, Gamo, Benjamin, etc,... all are good more higher powered air rifles. They get high feet-per-second with only one pump.

My favorite squirrel killer of all time is still the 880 Daisy bb/pellet gun. I've killed all kinds of birds, chipmunks, squirrels, a few rabbits and grouse with them. Very accurate too.

I shoot a Benjamin .22 spring gun. Smack down on Greys and big enough for yotes. Drive nails at 100 yards. In CA, nothing under a .22 is legal for hunting.

i used a cheap 10 pump daisy .177 from walmart (about $40) with a cheap daisy scope headshots all day about 20 yrds

Any good air rifle will be very effective on squirrels. I killed plenty growing up with a plain pump Crosman and iron sights. Air rifles have come a loooong way in the 30 years since. I would have to think that my old bb guns would be considered crap today..

Maybe someone in the know can answer another question that this brings up. For what possible reason are people buying these four and five hundred dollar airguns?

You can buy a 10/22, put a $100 scope on and accessorize it for less than some of these new airguns cost. I just don't get it...

I guess for the pure enjoyment people spend a lot of money to get the best on the market. I love to shoot pellets at squirrels and prefer the .22 caliber over the .177 for killing power. I would definitely spend what I could afford.

There's also quite a few who shoot in competition. My Dad used to be the instructor for a High School air-gun team. Like any thing else, if it's your hobby, most people want the best they can afford. There are some extreme examples of air-guns in .45 caliber that will take down large game!
