Default First Time Coyote Hunting...Any pointers?

Well I have been handed down my dads AR-15. I bought a sight rail for a scope today and bought surefire quad rail hand grips.
I live in Kentucky, and will be hunting in central KY for some yotes. Any tips or pointers is appreciated. I've got a barking predator call already and looking into the electronic handheld ones as well.

What are things i need to look for to find a good spot to hunker down and wait? Do i need to move every 15 minutes or so if the yotes dont come after the first or second sequence of calls?
How are the pelts this time of year?

Welcome to the world of Predators..... There are some phenomianl hunters on here... I look forward to them posting their pointers... Alot of them, I asked to share some tips on my website... Take a look and see what you can pull out of it... My tip... your first series of calls... Should be low to mid... volume... Alot of hunters blow out an area, within the first few seconds of a standjust by calling to loud... You never know if one is just over the hill taking a nap.. You light him up to loud, he is in the next county...

Congrats on the "hand me down" of the year. Now learn to shoot it from a sitting position and from shooting sticks, and get ready to get hooked on predator calling.
Find a place to sit where you can see your downwind side. That's where the predators will ALMOST always end up. If you don't have much ground to hunt, staying put for 30 to 45 minutes wouldn't be out of the question. 15 to 20 minutes is fine if you have lots of ground to hunt. Simply becaue most coyotes show up with in 10 minutes, so the more stands you do in a day, the better your odds are of having action. You will do many sequences of calling in a 15 minute period, although a lot of guys that use Ecallers let them run continously. The pelts aren't worth didley this time of year, and hardly worht more than that in the winter these days. The fur market is weak, very weak, so you're not going to get rich, that's for sure, even in the winter.
I would suggest you either find someone to go with that has successfully called predators for a few years, OR buy a predator calling video, or 2. Watch them , listen and learn how to do it. It will shorten the learning curve for you. I'd suggest either a Byron South video, some of his have a lot of action in terrain similar to what you might be hunting, or look up Brent Saxton's video's, which is all eastern calling action, should be similar to your terrain.
Calling coyotes isn't hard, but killing them can be tricky, expecially for the beginner! Good luck!

Don't forget the binoculars! Have made that mistake before.

I grew up shooting this AR-15, so im completely comfortable shooting in those positions.
Any recommendations on the e-calls?
And the videos are a good option for me, i don't know anyone around here well enough to go with them.

My other question is camouflage and scent...What is the best for this time of the year, because its in the 80s-90s for the next few months and i know coyotes are really "weary" animals..

I'll be heading out in July, when I get back from florida. I'll get you guys pictures ASAP

pick the camouflage that best blends with the terrain where you'll be sitting. Don't forget your hands and face, and try to avoid having anything that highly reflective. As far as scent goes, don't even think that you can cover your scent and keep a coyote from smelling you. Sure, it doesn't hurt to keep your scent to a minumum, BUT the best way of keeping them from smelling you is to shoot them before they get a wiff of ya, and that's why I said you need to set up so that you can see downwind.

As far as which Ecall, get the best you can afford. The FoxPro's are hard to beat, and you don't have to have the latest greatest Ecaller on the market. the FX3 is plenty good enough to start with. Most guys don't need 100 sounds, and a remote isn't really necassary. After all, lots and LOTS of coyotes have died when they came to hand calls, and they still do every year.
